It's the final hours before Day 1 of the early signing period!

SMU currently has 17 commitments in its 2021 class. By 9 a.m. CT Wednesday, the Mustangs are hoping commit No. 18 will be the biggest get since Rivals began rating players in 2002.
Duncanville offensive tackle Savion Byrd will announce his decision Wednesday morning, and SMU likes where it sits with the highly coveted, four-star lineman. Oklahoma seems to be SMU's biggest competition, and LSU is in the race, as well, but as the minutes tick away, SMU appears more and more in control of this battle.
One person who has his mind made up is recruiting analyst Sam Spiegelman. Check out this video hit done Monday.

Obviously, Wednesday can't get here quick enough for any of us.

There were some questions about SMU's very first 2021 class, Lubbock Coronado linebacker Izaiah Kelley. He's been committed to the Mustangs since Nov. 11, 2019, but it was his latest offer that had some wondering if the Mustangs could keep him.
Kelley picked up his hometown offer, Texas Tech, on Dec. 8, and while playing closer to home intrigues him, sources have told The HillTopics that he still plans on signing with SMU early Wednesday morning.
Part of the reason to sign with the Mustangs was to keep a promise to his late grandfather, Louis Kelley, a West Texas football coaching legend who also was a solid football player himself. Izaiah said his grandfather always spoke to him about the importance of a man's word.
He committed to SMU, and he's keeping his word by signing with SMU.

Flower Mound defensive end Stone Eby will sign with SMU around 7:45 a.m. Wednesday. Before putting his signature on a national letter of intent, Eby dropped his senior highlights on social media.
There's a reason why the SMU coaching staff is high on Eby, and the highlight reel was loaded with big plays. He's a versatile edge rusher who is just as comfortable with his hand in the turf as he is standing on the line of scrimmage.

Eby's motor is one of his best assets. The play at the 2:41 mark of the video is proof, as he not only gave a jarring hit to a running back, but also ran with a teammate on an interception, then was there to recover a fumble that resulted in a Flower Mound touchdown -- all in the same play.
