PonyLawExpress: With Charlie Moore visiting and the Jimmy Whitt commitment how many 2017 recruits do you think we sign, if we get Charlie Moore and one of Bruno or Kapita make it? Give us 12 scholly players (and 1 by sanctions). What about if we end up with 11 scholarship guys next year?
If Moore commits and one of either Bruno Fernando or Ted Kapita make it to campus, I think most likely that SMU will not take anyone is 2017 and instead focus on the numerous local talents that are in Texas' 2018 class. With seven scholarships down over three years, if SMU takes anyone in 2017 with the previously stated conditions, SMU would need to play like five players down in 2018-19 to make the NCAA requirements for the program. This is, of course, assuming that no players on the team transfer or someone like Semi Ojeleye doesn't declare early for the NBA draft. If that or god forbid a career-ending injury to a player happens, suddenly SMU has room to take a player in the 2017 class so even if SMU does load up on scholarship players now don't expect SMU to stop recruiting 2017 prospects just in case the unexpected occurs.
SFtoHilltop: Have you heard anything on the basketball scholly front? Since Kapita probably is not coming and Bruno is a long shot would we back fill or just eat the sscholly's towards our punishment?
I think the Jimmy Whitt pickup shows that SMU is going to fill its scholarships up for 2016. The only way that doesn't happen is if Kapita and Fernando both find out they won't qualify so late in the process that SMU can't pick up a transfer up to the program's standards. Otherwise with Whitt on board and Moore visiting, it sure looks like SMU wants to take as many scholarship players as possible right now to build for the future.
CTMustang: When is graduation?
That would be Saturday the 14th. The great @nikkichavanelle will be joining us among the ranks of the SMU alumni.
