It is great to finally be a part of The Boulevard Message Board Forum.
I'm an SMU alum (99'-03'), originally from Miami, Florida, and I moved back to South Florida after college. As a lifelong Canes fan, I've actually been a member over in Gary Ferman's War Room for the Canes Message Board for over a decade, but finally thought I should be a part of my alma mater's message board since we have had some great things going for us.
Of course I've been following both Mustang Football and Basketball over the years, and can't believe the levels of success Coach Brown has brought to our basketball program. When I was at SMU, I think we were lucky to have Moody half full- now I flip on the TV from my apartment in Downtown Fort Lauderdale and I'm watching ESPN College Gameday set up shop at Moody for The Ponies v. UCONN, watching students and Alum tailgate all over campus (Don't get me started on the football team from 99'-03' lol). Truly remarkable to see the level of success and respectability Coach Brown has been building. One of the best hires I have ever seen the Mustangs make.
As far as the game last night, I think it took a few years off of my life. lol... Nic Moore was turning the ball over early and looked out of sync, we were missing free throws left, right, and center, and Temple was zoning from behind the three point line. Down by eight at the half, I told by buddies at the bar that with Kennedy, Moore, and Coach Brown leading the way, we had more than a good chance of coming back, and that I've seen it happen so often. Sure enough, the team looked more settled and in control in the second half, Nic Moore was the catalyst in leading the comeback, Coach Brown pulled the right strings from the sideline, we made more of our free throws, and Cunningham buried a clutch three late to practically seal deal. The team's toughness and fight showed why it deserves to be a top-20 team.
The thing I like the MOST about this SMU basketball team is that these guys are truly a TEAM. They play solid TEAM DEFENSE, and they are efficient on offense by moving the ball around to find each other. The team certainly has its flaws, but the boys are primed and ready to close the season strong going into the AAC Tournament. Last year's collapse was a tough teaching lesson, and I think that these guys have learned what it takes to FINISH STRONG. We are currently a #7 Seed in ESPN's Bracketology, but this team could certainly work its way as a high a #5 in the event we really run the tables here. I think that we will ultimately see us seeded #6-#9.
#21, 22-5 (13-2), and on top of the AAC almost guaranteed to break into the TOP-20 in next week's ranking before the road showdown at Memphis next Thursday.
Great time to be a Mustang!
