While it hasn't been officially reported by SMU, the Mustangs appear to have a new name to its coaching staff -- and it's a good one.
Kenny Perry appears to be a part of Sonny Dykes' staff in some capacity. Perry is the former co-defensive coordinator at Kansas who also was the defensive backs coach for the Dallas Renegades of the XFL. Perry also was an assistant at TCU in 2013 and 2014, before moving on to Kansas from 2015-18.
Perry has tons of Texas high school football skins on the wall. He was a head coach at Arlington Sam Houston, Haltom and Arlington Bowie and made the playoffs every year as a head coach.
We'll wait for SMU to officially announce him and his position, but having Perry on staff is huge for the Mustangs. He was tagged in a recruiting update from Tahlequah, Oklahoma, linebacker target Eli McWilliams, who landed an SMU offer Sunday. Additionally, Perry's had the SMU Triple D logo as his Twitter profile picture for a few days now.
