The 2020 Outland Trophy Watch List was released Tuesday, and SMU offensive tackle Jaylon Thomas was one of 85 players who made the list, according to the Football Writers Association of America (FWAA).
The Outland Trophy historically recognizes college football's top interior lineman. Despite not being considered "interior linemen," offensive tackles are eligible for consideration.
Thomas, a 6-3, 312-pound offensive tackle, is considered one of the best linemen -- if not the best -- in the American Athletic Conference. The junior started all 13 games last season and has started 19 of his last 20 wearing an SMU uniform.
Thomas was named a second-team All-AAC selection in 2019. He was one of five AAC linemen to make the cut, joining Memphis center Dylan Parham, UCF guard Cole Schneider, Temple defensive tackle Ifeanyi Maijeh and Tulane guard Corey Dublin.
