First reported by The Dallas Morning News, the SMU basketball team will schedule a home-and-home series with Dayton, an Atlantic 10 power and a team that would have been a darkhorse of this year's NCAA Tournament.
The report states that SMU will play at UD Arena in Dayton for the 2020-21 season, and the series will return to Moody Coliseum for the 2021-22 season. This would be huge for SMU in that the Flyers finished this past year with a 29-2 record (18-0 in conference play) and ranked No. 3 in the AP Poll
SMU and Dayton will be scheduling a home-and-home for the next two years, per a source. @SMUBasketball will go to Dayton next year and the series will return to Dallas in 2021-2022. The Flyers finished last season ranked No. 3 in the AP Poll.
Coached by Anthony Grant, Dayton featured a relatively team last season. He only had one senior in guard Trey Landers and a graduate player in forward Ryan Mikesell. Landers averaged 10.5 points and 6.9 rebounds per game, and he made 57% of his shots. Mikesell averaged 8.5 points and 4.7 rebounds, and he shot 48% from the field.
Fortunately for SMU, it won't have to see forward Obi Toppin next year. Dayton's leading scorer was a consensus All-American and national Player of the Year award recipient. He has declared for the NBA Draft and will sign an agent.
