Think we need to give Hicks a break. His two biggest problems are a very inexperienced OL---which was spotlighted once Natour went out (hope I didn't put the whammy on him in last weeks' misguided scattershot)--and his youth---as Morris says, he's pressing too much in the red zone and in clutch situations---even his mechanics were off, as demonstrated by the ruptured ducks and worm burners he was throwing in the second half. Some have suggested that he roll out more, having had some success in those situations. I think his roll out success is the result of his decent football instincts, where he is not overthinking the play. If the staff is not careful, he might suffer what Gilbert did at Texas---telltale signs are there, coaches are working on "body language"---and just look at him hiding behind his hands during the post game pressed---were I Morris, think I would spare him the pressers experience.
That hit Millines put on Diarse was vicious and intentional. I was parallel to them in the sidelines and saw it as it happened. Millines standing over Diarse and crowing about the hit, which I'm sure was adrenaline fueled, was bush league.....
Saw Jay Scott on the sidelines. A real good kid. Many of you may remember him as a good DB....he got his Masters in Engineering Management at SMU. Now works for Martin Marietta in their management development program.
I may have to begin to revise my opinion of the defensive secondary.....except for one unfortunate play, Kevin Johnson (from Waskom, Texas----look it up) looked pretty good. Still a lot of arm tackling, though----look at my pictures.....
TCU just wore out the defense----nearly 100 snaps. Unfortunately, the fault lies with the offense---they just gotta stay on the field longer.
Was happy to see some more Wildcat formations, maybe the Staff will use it outside the twenty.....best blend of what Freeman was (QB) and what the Staff is making him (RB)
Some want to criticize Morris's conservatism in play calling. He said he did it to protect the psyche of his very young team. Some say it had a reverse impact, conveying the message that he doesn't have confidence in the team. I'm gonna go with Morris on this one---he's a heck of a lot closer to the team than any of us. And remember, he's focused on the long-run this season, not a couple of kicks from TCU's long-thirties.
