  • Turner, Hart and Brown all emphasized that they are most disappointed that the postseason ban will negatively affect student athletes who had nothing to do with the violations. It felt to me like they were positioning themselves to make this aspect the central part of their appeal when they make that decision.
  • Turner and Hart said that the NCAA praised SMU compliance's thoroughness.
  • Turner said that because SMU's case is the first under a new set of punishment standards there are no real precedents to compare with but Turner admitted that by comparing SMU's sanctions to previous ones it seems like SMU got hammered by the NCAA.
  • Turner said that there are a number of factors to consider before deciding whether to appeal the sanctions, saying that recruiting ramifications are chief among those concerns.
  • SMU's two scholarship reduction for this season will count towards the 9 scholarships SMU will lose over the next three years.
  • Turner gave his full support to Brown going through this process. Turner said that LB's reported lie came in a moment of panic and then Brown corrected himself within the same meeting with the NCAA. Brown confirmed this and said his panic came from being blindsided by a question and after excusing himself he corrected himself.
  • Brown said the violation was an isolated incident and that no member of his staff instructed the administrative assistant to assist Frazier in the class.
  • Brown says he has no plans to resign and he feels a responsibility to take care of the players, his "family."
  • Hart said that he met with Brown before meeting with the team and then did the same thing with the golf team today.
  • Brown said the meeting with the team was about as hard of an experience as he's ever been through.
  • Hart said that they would assist any student athlete who wants to transfer but LB noted that seniors won't be able to transfer because semesters have begun already.
  • Brown implied that he used the UConn situation from a couple of years ago to motivate the team that they can overcome this and be better for it in the end.
