The Burlsworth Trophy is awarded to college football's best player who started off as a walk-on. SMU running back Tyler Lavine on Tuesday was announced as a nominee for the award.
In nine games, Lavine rushed for 310 yards and five touchdowns. The 5-11, 220-pounder also caught eight passes for 93 yards. Lavine even recorded a fumble recovery on special teams.
