Was asked by poster Pony Express about Stanford DT Michael Williams, who entered the transfer portal on Wednesday. The good news: Williams is very interested in SMU, per a source. The interest, obviously, is mutual.
The bad news: Williams is being courted by as many as 30 schools, so SMU will need to win a major recruiting battle. The multiple interest says a lot considering he's only been in the transfer portal for a day. The interested schools stretch across the country -- but as of Thursday afternoon, my source said he hadn't heard from TCU.
What does that mean? Williams, a Fort Worth native, would love to play close to home if the situation is right, and with SMU losing Zach Abercrumbia, Demerick Gary and Pono Davis next season, there would be plenty of opportunity for Williams to fit right in as a grad transfer. He graduates from Stanford in the spring and has a year of playing eligibility.
Williams started all 12 games for Stanford and had 24 tackles and a sack this past season.
It would be a huge get for Sonny and Co. if Williams chose SMU. Look for a decision from him possibly around mid-January.
