Hoops: SMU moves into AP Top 25

DALLAS (SMU) -SMU Men's Basketball is tied for No. 25 in the Associated Press Top 25, released today. The Mustangs (3-0) moved into the rankings for the first time this season following an 85-70 win at Stanford on Thursday and a 71-69 win over Yale on Sunday. SMU was receiving votes in the first two polls of the season.This is the third straight season SMU has been in the top 25. In 2014-15, SMU was in the top 25 for nine weeks including the final seven regular season polls. SMU finished No. 18 in the AP and receiving votes in the USA Today Coaches poll. The Mustangs spent four weeks in the Top 25 in 2013-14.

SMU was picked to win a second straight American Athletic Conference championship in the AAC preseason coaches' poll.Nic Moorewas tabbed to repeat as AAC Player of the Year, while he and fellow seniorMarkus Kennedywere unanimously selected to the preseason all-conference first team. Moore was also named to the Wooden Award Preseason Top 50 for the second straight season while Kennedy was named to the 2016 Karl Malone Award Watch List, which recognizes the top power forward in Division I men's college basketball.

SMU is one of three American Athletic Conference teams in the AP Top 25 this week. Connecticut is No. 18, Cincinnati is No. 24 and the Mustangs are tied for No. 25. Tulsa is receiving votes.

The Mustangs host Brown on Sunday at 2 p.m. CT.
