The college basketball season is roughly five months away, but College Hoops Today took a look at the American Athletic Conference for the 2020-21 season. College insider Jon Rothstein likes Houston as the team to beat in the conference, but he has SMU ranked No. 2.

The Mustangs aren't expected to lose any players from last season -- assuming forwards Isiaha Mike and Feron Hunt return for another year after considering the NBA Draft. To add, SMU will add Cal transfer guard Darius McNeill to the fold, as he sat last year because of NCAA transfer rules.

"The Ponies have the requisites to return to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2017," Rothstein said.
