Kevin Kane has been tied to the DC position at Kansas, his alma mater. A source inside the KU program there says he has heard Kane's name, as well as that of former SMU headman Phil Bennett. Kane would be a popular choice among the players, as he was a linebackers coach there. However, it's nothing more than speculation at this point. We will keep you updated there.
Sonny Dykes ripped Memphis for dirty play on the play that Ryan Becker was injured on. Memphis coach Mike Norvell responded by saying his player didn't intend to hurt Becker. Take that as you will.
I expect Becker will miss the rest of the season. He didn't look too good after the game and he was undergoing pivot shift tests on the field. Odds are he tore or sprained something in that knee, but I am awaiting confirmation on that. However, I'm comfortable saying it appears to be a bad injury, given that they performed a pivot shift test on the field. That's something that they usually do when they are checking for an ACL tear.
SMU lost several players in the secondary Friday. Robert Hayes, Jordan Wyatt, Elijah McQueen, Pat Nelson and Eric Sutton were all shaken up at some point during the game. Wyatt started, but was in street clothes at the end of the game. McQueen and Nelson played after being injured. I have no information on Hayes, but will find out tomorrow. A source inside the program told me that Sutton has an ankle injury. He had been held out of practice before with it, and must have re-injured it.
Lastly, Beau Morris was seen outside of the stadium in a shoulder sling. He was injured in the first quarter. I'll have an update for you tomorrow on that.
