President Bush was there, but where was Laura?.......
Where I come from, you tell your special teams players that if they want to see playing time on the offense or defense, then they have to show you something on special teams.....looks like the scholarship field may be ripe for a bit of pruning....including maybe an assistant coach or two?
When I saw Briggs in street clothes on the sidelines before the game started, I knew SMU was in for a rough day....just no depth yet on the OL. And the couple of plays when Brown was out, it was like a Memphis jailbreak. Speaking of Brown, anybody besides me see him walk/limp off the field after a couple of series and just collapse on the sidelines? And then he would be on the field for the next series? Tough kid.
What has become of Alex Honey? Carmouche? Saw Gailliard a bit, but only after West was injured.
Lot of talk about Morris' play calling.....I wish that just once a media member would ask him directly what the heck was he thinking? Unfortunately, the Staff controls the discussion, so we may never know....a common complaint amongst media members.
Speaking of play calling, what was up with all the up the gut running plays with a banged up offensive line? And QB keepers with a QB that maybe I can out run? Geez, HCCM, how about play calling to the talent on the field, instead of to your system?
I do believe SMU did not have its game face on (kind of like Houston when it was here). Further verified, by Hicks comment that he could tell at practice on Wednesday that the team wasn't ready. Well, that smacks of a leadership problem. And if Hicks didn't feel it was his place to speak up, he should have spoken to more senior players and the coaching staff. And if he didn't know who to speak to, then, there you go, a leadership problem......
I did take pictures of the game, and will post a few good ones (if I can find any) this afternoon
Well, that's it. I caught a gig this weekend shooting a HS playoff game at The Star Saturday. Heard a lot about the place.......
