Football: Rumbling from the recruiting trail

Yesterday 2015 San Angelo Central defensive end Eli Howard de-committed from UNT. This comes a week after SMU offered Howard. A source told me that there is a good chance Howard could pull the trigger on SMU in the near future so something to keep an eye out for, possibly as soon as this week. Also, please please please keep this information on this board and away from other sites so that my staff and I can keep any competitive advantage we have on this story

Sedrick Barefield Highlight Video from Tark Classic

I'll be driving down to San Diego on Saturday to watch and talk with Barefield at the Under Armor Holiday Classic as well as his Centennial teammates Ike Anigbogu and Jalen Hill, who both hold SMU offers. Prime Prep and five-star 2016 shooting guard Terrance Ferguson will also be at the tournament and I will try to talk with him as well.

SMU w/huge resume win at Michigan. Yes Michigan is struggling. But it's a road win vs. power 5. Mustangs can be judged w/Kennedy now, too.

True road wins have historically meant more to the selection committee. That's why SMU and VCU are big winners so far today.

Life with Markus Kennedy

I really don't see this happening.

For one, it sounds like he needs a lot of help on his finals (papers) to even get a passing grade. And if the word about him being ineligible from the summer is accurate that just demonstrates how many hurdles are in play.

So look at it like this...
If he passes his exam/papers

If he has a cumulative GPA to be declared eligible

If the History department chair to sign off on his tests/grades etc (this is conjecture)

Then MAYBE he's eligible.

Looks like he can't even play against UIC tonight and wasn't at practice Tuesday. What more do you need to know?

For me, if you're saying IF more than twice for something good to happen, then forget it. He was put in the wrong major (maybe that's the coaching staff's fault or his) and this was too overwhelming for him given his academic deficiencies.

Part of me is upset with him. Most of me is upset with SMU for not doing everything it could to not let this happen. We promised this kid we would do everything in our power to keep him eligible knowing what we knew about his academic struggles. We didn't deliver. We screwed up. We failed him.

Fortunately, the AAC looks like a big yawner of a league so it could still be won without him.

I hope I'm wrong but that's just my take after reading everything.

This season has all of the appeal of getting stuck to flypaper. IMO nothing has changed after Indiana. This team doesn't work well together. It's a mess. Too many 6-4 and 6-8 guys with no proven point guard and really no legit low post enforcer on offense and defense.

I could see this going like 18-12.
