Hoops Practice Notes (1-19)

I took a few notes at basketball practice today:

· The team had an hour-long film session before practice started on Monday.

· Larry Brown decided to get involved in SMU's warmups, doing jump rope with the team. A lot of the players were laughing and trying to get their coach to hop on one foot with them as well.

· Jean Michael Mudiay rode the stationary bike during practice after spraining his foot in practice last week.

· Keith Frazier was back at practice on Monday. His jumper looked good from midrange and deep.

· Ben Moore looked good in practice today, especially in passing. He threw two nice lobs to Ojeleye and Frazier for dunks

· The team worked on different drills like denying entry passes (Nic Moore looked amused that he was paired with Cannen Cunningham for this drill) and advancing the ball against the press.

· Semi Ojeleye continues to adjust to SMU. His big play was when he set a screen that took out Ryan Manuel and Nic Moore to free up Ben Emelogu for an open three.

Official Visit List for this Weekend

Here is a quick list of the visitors that will be on campus this weekend.

First off, every member of the 2015 class will be on campus next weekend as part of the staff's goal of getting them all in a room together to start bonding as a class. However, James Proche will be on campus this weekend unofficially to recruit those on their officials.

This is an early list and I will keep updating as we go today

SMU Press Conference vs ECU 1/17/15

Coach Larry Brown:

-We are trying to get more people involved, especially Cunningham and Emogolu.

-ECU coach told Coach Brown they are the best passing team they've played against outside of North Carolina

-Ben Moore has been struggling, we had a long talk about that after the game.

-Ryan Manuel's growth is getting better and better.

-Ben Moore's versatility complimenting Markus Kennedy's comeback in the post

-Markus Kennedy doesn't want to start, is comfortable coming off the bench right now

-Ben Moore has been tentative on the road, adjusted well today in the second half.

-What's holding Emologu back right now? He cares "maybe too much" and is pressuring himself too much

-Surprised Wilfong dunked but said "he's better than people think. We may have to use him..."

Sterling Brown:

-On and off the floor, team chemistry is constantly improving

-Loved Wilfong's dunk, he's a fan favorite

-On 21 assists, we were doing what we usually do, just knocked down more shots today

Ryan Manuel:

-Going back to the basics- emphasizing defense and rebounding and we've dramatically improved

-Everyone has to step up right now

Both players really emphasized rebounding and defense over and over.

Other notes:

-Sterling Brown started in Keith Frazier's absence tonight. He had 10 points, 7 rebounds, and 3 assists. This was his second start of the season, his other vs Indiana earlier in the year. With this type of performance, look for Coach Larry Brown to keep that same starting lineup next week.

-SMU off to best start in conference play (5-1) since 2001-02 (5-1 in WAC)

-SMU shot 50% from the field for the 9th time this season. Entered 1st in AAC with a FG % of 48.4.

-SMU is 1st in the league in FT % but only shot 57.9% from the line tonight- 11/19.

-SMU has now won 12 of 13 games, 4 consecutive games
