Basketball: SMU to open at home Nov. 25 against Sam Houston State

SMU will open its 2020-21 men's basketball season at home Nov. 25 against Sam Houston State. It will be the first of four nonconference games at Moody Coliseum between Nov. 25 and Dec. 8, as the Mustangs also will host Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (Nov. 30), Houston Baptist (Dec. 2) and Vanderbilt (Dec. 8).

The Mustangs will travel to Ohio to take on championship-contender Dayton for a nonconference battle on Dec. 5.

FB Recruiting SMU gets a preferred walk-on commitment in Matthew Baer

SMU landed a PWO pledge from defensive end Matthew Baer, a 6-1, 230-pounder from Regis Jesuit High School in Aurora, Colorado.

Baer first reported the PWO offer back in September. Less than two months later, he agreed to join the Mustangs -- and he could be a player to watch. In three varsity seasons, he's compiled 183 tackles (37.0 for loss), 17.0 sacks and 56.0 quarterback hurries.

"I've dreamed of this day for a long time," Baer wrote in a social media message.

Baer had 91 tackles (22 tackles for loss) and 12.5 sacks as a junior last season. He also has 26 quarterback hurries. This season, through five games, Baer has 31 tackles, a fumble recovery and two forced fumbles.
